At Samlesbury, we strive to give all our children a broad and balanced curriculum with many opportunities for extended learning opportunities. Below is a link to our curriculum map for 2015-2017. There is also a link to the national curriculum.
Please view our curriculum newsletters for more information on our curriculum each half term.
Phonics at Samlesbury
We use a systematic synthetic approach to phonics. The children begin phonics in Reception class using ‘Letters and Sounds’.
Reading at Samlesbury
Our children begin to read using The Oxford Reading Tree/ Phonic Bug followed by progression on to our school library. We are very proud of our school library which is supported by a team of Friends of School to ensure it is up-to-date and children gain good access. We use Accelerated Reader which we feel helps children make good progress with reading alongside promoting the love of reading.
If you would like further information on our curriculum, please contact school on 01772 877200 to speak to the headteacher, Lucy Sutton.
