PSHE Intent, Implementation and Impact Statement

Intent

At Samlesbury CE Primary, we see PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic education) as a really important part of helping our children grow into happy, confident, and kind individuals. We want our pupils to feel good about themselves, make safe choices, and understand how to handle life’s ups and downs. Learning about friendships, health, feelings, and responsibilities helps them become caring and thoughtful citizens. Everything we do is rooted in our Christian values and our mission to “Let Your Light Shine!”

Implementation

We use the SCARF programme (which stands for Safety, Caring, Achievement, Resilience and Friendship) to guide our PSHE lessons. These cover three main areas: Health and Wellbeing, Relationships, and Living in the Wider World. We teach PSHE in lots of different ways—through lessons, circle time, assemblies, and class worship. It also links in with other subjects like RE, Science and PE.

Because our classes have mixed year groups, teachers adapt the lessons to make sure they fit the needs of their pupils. We also make time to talk about kindness, respecting others, friendship, and how to keep our minds and bodies healthy. Children are given chances to take on responsibilities, work in teams, and come together as a school community.

Impact

By the time they leave us, we want our children to feel ready for whatever comes next. They’ll understand the importance of treating others well, looking after themselves, and playing a positive role in their communities. Our school values - like trust, respect, compassion and perseverance - are woven into everything we do and help our pupils grow into well-rounded, thoughtful individuals who are ready to shine in the world.
