Choosing a primary school is a major decision and we are delighted that you are considering Samlesbury for your child. We are all very proud of Samlesbury and what we can offer your child. Samlesbury is a small, unique school where we strive to treat children as individuals and work hard to enable them to reach their full potential. Samlesbury has a distinct family feel; children and staff are caring and work together to do their best.

Admissions to Reception Class
Children are not legally required to start school until the term following their fifth birthday. In Lancashire, however, all children who have their 5th birthday between 1 September 2023 and 31 August 2024 may start school in September 2023 if their parents / carers wish it. We take a maximum of 10 children each year. Children come from far and near to attend our very special school. In September 2021, we had 10 children start school.
Applications for primary schools are open from 1st September 2022 for admissions for September 2023.
The closing date for primary school applications for September 2023 is the 15th January 2023.
Apply for a primary school place
LCC will send out notification emails to parents on the 17th April 2023. Any pupils who are not happy with their offer may appeal (see link below) and full details are provided by LCC. As we are a church school, if you attend church please also complete a faith reference form and return this to school. These forms are available from the school office.
Appeal for Admission to a Primary School
Appeals must be received by Lancashire County Council by Friday 12th May 2023. Appeals will be heard by Friday 7th July 2023.
Once your appeal is received you will be invited to participate in an appeal hearing. The intention is that hearings will remain informal and last around 20 minutes.
You will be asked to confirm whether you wish to participate or are happy for the hearing to proceed in your absence, with your written submission. Where possible you will be notified at least 14 days before the hearing to give you time to prepare.
The appeal will be heard by a panel acting independently of the Local Authority. They will have no connection with the school you are appealing for, or the school your child has been allocated a place at. These are the people who will make the decision about your appeal.
We will write to you to let you know the result of the hearing within 7 calendar days, wherever possible.
If a place has already been refused at appeal, the admissions authority will only consider a second appeal for a place at the same school or academy in the same academic year if they consider that there has been a relevant, significant and material change in the family's circumstances (since the original appeal hearing). If this is the case a second appeal hearing may be appropriate. Individual admissions authorities will decide in relation to re-appeal requests.
The selection and oversubscription are managed by LCC as they are our admissions authority.
The number of places available for admission to Reception in the year 2023 will be a maximum of 10.
The number of children on School Roll is 67.
It is the parent’s responsibility to ensure their legal application is submitted before the deadline to the authority.

In Year Admissions are admissions to school that take place outside the normal admissions rounds (ie Reception and Year 7)
If you are new to the area and require a school place or if you already reside in the area and you want to move your child from their current local school to our school, your application should be made directly to our school and the child will be admitted where there are available places.

To apply for a place, complete our In-Year Admissions form, Samlesbury in year form and return to bursar@samlesbury.lancs.sch.uk
If you have any questions in relation to in-year admissions, please contact us either by email at school email address (bursar@samlesbury.lancs.sch.uk) or by phone on school phone number 01772 877200.
Your application will be acknowledged upon receipt and we will advise you of the outcome within a maximum of 15 school days. Where places are available, but we have more applications than places, the published oversubscription criteria will be applied, to ensure the correct child/children are offered the places. If there are no places available, the child will be added to the waiting list and you have the right of appeal. Please see below for appeal information. Please note, that the waiting list does NOT guarantee a place at our school and if your child is currently not in education you should either make an appeal to our school and/or apply for a place at an alternative school.
Further information on how to apply for a local school can be found on the Lancashire County Council website: https://www.lancashire.gov.uk/children-education-families/schools/apply-for-a-school-place/changing-schools-during-the-school-year/
We have a statutory duty to inform the LA of all enquiries and allocation of places to ensure that no child is classed as CME - Child Missing in Education.
Appeals Process
If we do not have a space available in the requested year group, you will then have the right to make an 'In-Year' appeal. Please refer to the information below:
A new E-form has been created for all Primary and Secondary School Admission Appeals.
The link on available on the LCC website. LCC Appeal E-FORM
How it works
Once an appellant has completed their e-form on-line it will automatically generate through to the schools e-mail address, this applies for VA, Foundation and Academy Schools. The appellant will also get a copy of their completed application form with an automated ID number for their appeal.
- For VA, Foundation and Academy schools – the school will be required to fill in the school's case and return the Schools case and parental Appeal form directly to the appeals team.
There will not be a need for the appellant to fill in a separate consent form as this information will be captured in the E-Form. LCC Appeal E_FORM
If you have not been awarded a place in EYFS and you wish to make an appeal for entry into Reception Class in September, please contact Lancashire County Council directly using the Appeal E-FORM:LCC Appeal E-FORM
