Choosing a primary school is a major decision and we are delighted that you are considering Samlesbury for your child. We are all very proud of Samlesbury and what we have to offer. Samlesbury is a small, unique school where we strive to treat children as individuals and work hard to enable them to reach their full potential. Samlesbury has a distinct family feel; children and staff are caring and work together to do their best.

By looking around our website or at our Facebook page, you will get a good feel for our school, but we'd love to show you around our fantastic setting and we welcome visitors all year around. Please get in touch with our school bursar to arrange a visit - Mrs Sandra Hill, bursar@samlesbury.lancs.sch.uk; 01772 877200.

Admissions to Reception Class

If your child has their 5th birthday between 1st September 2025 and 31st August 2026, then now is the time to be thinking about applying to primary school and we'd love you to consider Samlesbury. We take a maximum of 10 children each year and children come from far and near to attend our fantastic little school, which is often described as being 'like a family' where everybody knows everybody!

Applications for primary schools are open from 1st September 2024 for admissions for September 2025.

The closing date for primary school applications for September 2025 is the 15th January 2025.

Apply for a primary school place

LCC will send out notification emails to parents on 16th April 2025. Any pupils who are not happy with their offer may appeal (see link below) and full details are provided by LCC. As we are a church school, if you attend church please also complete a faith reference form and return this to school. These forms are available from the school office.

Appeal for Admission to a Primary School

Where the governors are unable to offer a place because the school is over subscribed, parents have the right to appeal to an independent admission appeal panel, set up under the School Standards and Framework Act, 1998, as amended by the Education Act, 2002. Parents should notify the clerk to the governors at the school by 16th May 2025. You can read more about this in our Admissions Policy below.

The number of places available for admission to Reception in the year 2025 will be a maximum of 10.

The number of children on School Roll is 67.

It is the parent’s responsibility to ensure their legal application is submitted before the deadline to the authority.

In Year Admissions are admissions to school that take place outside the normal admissions rounds (ie Reception and Year 7)

If you are new to the area and require a school place or if you already reside in the area and you want to move your child from their current local school to our school, your application should be made directly to our school and the child will be admitted where there are available places.

To apply for a place, complete our In-Year Admissions form, Samlesbury in year form and return to bursar@samlesbury.lancs.sch.uk

If you have any questions in relation to in-year admissions, please contact us either by email at school email address (bursar@samlesbury.lancs.sch.uk) or by phone on school phone number 01772 877200.

Your application will be acknowledged upon receipt and we will advise you of the outcome within a maximum of 15 school days. Where places are available, but we have more applications than places, the published oversubscription criteria will be applied, to ensure the correct child/children are offered the places. If there are no places available, the child will be added to the waiting list and you have the right of appeal. Please see below for appeal information. Please note, that the waiting list does NOT guarantee a place at our school and if your child is currently not in education you should either make an appeal to our school and/or apply for a place at an alternative school.

Further information on how to apply for a local school can be found on the Lancashire County Council website: https://www.lancashire.gov.uk/children-education-families/schools/apply-for-a-school-place/changing-schools-during-the-school-year/

We have a statutory duty to inform the LA of all enquiries and allocation of places to ensure that no child is classed as CME - Child Missing in Education.

Appeals Process

If we do not have a space available in the requested year group, you will then have the right to make an 'In-Year' appeal. Please refer to the information below:

An E-form has been created for all Primary and Secondary School Admission Appeals. The link is available on the LCC website. LCC Appeal E-FORM

How it works

Once an appellant has completed their e-form on-line it will automatically generate through to the schools e-mail address, this applies for VA, Foundation and Academy Schools.  The appellant will also get a copy of their completed application form with an automated ID number for their appeal.

  • For VA, Foundation and Academy schools – the school will be required to fill in the school's case and return the Schools case and parental Appeal form directly to the appeals team.

There will not be a need for the appellant to fill in a separate consent form as this information will be captured in the E-Form. LCC Appeal E_FORM

If you have not been awarded a place in EYFS and you wish to make an appeal for entry into Reception Class in September, please contact Lancashire County Council directly using the Appeal E-FORM:LCC Appeal E-FORM

School uses the Local Authority Appeals Team to organise appeal hearings and paperwork. They will contact you directly with the time and date of your appeal hearing. Please note that due to the high volume of calls and emails submitted to the Local Authority Appeals Team, they need to prioritise all enquiries and will try and respond to your requests within 5 working days wherever possible.
